Mission & Outreach

Kirk Schools

Since 1961, the Kirk Schools have been a significant presence on the church grounds. It’s 200 children, preschool through 5th grade, and their families, is our largest outreach program. The school occupies most of our buildings and campus during the week. We believe that living together peacefully in diversity is a skill sorely needed in our world, and one best taught to children beginning at a young age; therefore, our curriculum has a strong character formation element that includes a focus on the traits of respect, acceptance, compassion, and conflict resolution. Teaching these universal traits resonates well with our ethnically and religiously diverse families that make up our student body.

Project Linus

Kirk members of all ages are busy all year making blankets to support the Greater Los Angeles Area chapter of this organization, which donates handmade blankets to children 0-18 in the United States who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need.

Family Rescue Center

The Kirk Church and the Kirk School combine forces to support seasonal food drives for the Family Rescue Center, an organization that meets the needs of hungry, low-income families and the homeless in the west San Fernando Valley.

Music Outreach

Our church has always had a strong musical presence. We are trying to share the talents of our members with people in the community. We are also allowing other groups to come and use our beautiful space for their recitals and events. Music has a way of bringing people together, and we are happy to provide those opportunities.

Scouting America Programs

Many families participate in Scouting of America (formerly Boy Scouts) and Girl Scouts. The Kirk supports scouting activities in multiple ways, including supporting fundraising activities, offering Kirk facilities for meetings (such as Order of the Arrow or National Youth Leadership Training), conducting the PRAY Program (Program for Religious Activities for Youth), and sponsoring a Boy Scout Eagle Project for a water conserving redesign of the Meditation Garden. As part of this partnership, the scouts have conducted service projects at the church, such as assisting with the distribution of new wood chips for the Kirk School playgrounds.
